Become a Volunteer
Interested in becoming a volunteer (part-time/paid-call) member with Wood River Fire & Rescue? If so, below is a list of some of the requirements that volunteers are expected to meet.

Initial Requirements

1. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
 
2. Live within the Fire District boundaries or ten miles from a station.

3. Possess a valid Idaho Driver's license and own a vehicle.
 
4. Be in good health and physical condition.
 
5. Possess a high school diploma (or GED)
 
6. Either present a certificate of training or successfully complete the State Certified Essentials of Firefighting course. The Essentials course is offered once a year in either the Spring or Fall. The course typically has classroom sessions every Thursday night and hands on training at least 1 Saturday a month. (Cadets do not receive pay for class attendance.)

7. Pass a criminal history check. 

Probation
Each new Firefighter shall be placed on probation for approximately 1 year. During this time the firefighter is expected to complete the following:

1. Attempt the Wood River Fire and Rescue physical agility test.

2. Maintain 70% drill attendance.

3. Respond to at least 10% of emergency calls.

4. Complete a CPR Health Care Provider class.

5. Complete an Infectious Control class.

6. Complete Incident Command System training.

7. Complete a Hazardous Materials Operations class.
