What is "Children with Special Health Care Needs"?
"Children with Special Health Care Needs" is a program designed to provide pertinent medical information to EMS providers for pre-hospital care and treatment of children with special health care considerations. This information will be available to EMS personnel prior to an "event" therefore giving the EMS providers more time to administer definitive pre-hospital care.
Objective of EMS and "Children with Special Health Care Needs":
1. To provide to EMS personnel a list of names and addresses of children who may be chronically ill or technology dependent and may require special needs or services from EMS personnel in the pre-hospital setting.
2. To provide responding EMS personnel with pertinent medical information about the patient prior to their arrival on scene.
3. To help overcome any language barrier that might impede the gathering of information and the delivery of timely care by the EMS provider.
4. To insure the best possible care during the transition from home/school to the hospital.
5. To take a more proactive role in the community.
Criteria for becoming a "Child with Special Health Care Needs":
Any child with a life threatening disease, illness, medical or food allergy.
Any child who is chronically ill or technology dependent and may require special needs or services from EMS providers in a pre-hospital setting.
