| Wood River Fire & Rescue General Department Information

The Wood River Fire Protection District, which does business as Wood River Fire and Rescue, is located in south central Idaho and has a fluctuating population of approximately 10,000. The district is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners. In 1974 the Fire District was established as a political subdivision of the State of Idaho. The District currently employs ten full time personnel and 24 paid-call employees with a budget of $1, 170,723.72 for the 2003/2004 fiscal year.
The District provides fire protection from three facilities. This coverage encompasses approximately 150 square miles for fire protection and 1,500 square miles for Emergency Medical Services. The District employs a full time fire chief, assistant fire chief, office manager, three captains, three lieutenants and two firefighter/engineers. All of our full time personnel are Idaho certified Advanced EMT’s, or Idaho certified EMT- Paramedics. Major equipment includes a 75’ ladder truck, two Class A engines, one wildland engine, one Class A engine/tender, one water tender, one heavy rescue, and three ambulances. On September 1, 1997, the District received an ISO fire rating of five and eight. The primary focus of the District is public/safety education, fire prevention, fire inspection, fire suppression, emergency medical services, non-emergency transfers, and technical rescue. The District provides by contract with Blaine County, emergency medical transport services to all of Southern Blaine County and is licensed by the State of Idaho as a Paramedic Level Service.
