EMS Information
Q:  How many departments in the valley provide ambulance service?
A:  Of the 9 departments in the valley, only 2 provide ambulance services, Wood River Fire & Rescue and Ketchum Fire Department which is also Paramedic level service.

Q:  How many ambulances are there in the Wood River Valley?
A:  There are seven total.  Between Ketchum Fire Department and Wood River Fire & Rescue, there are 6 transport ambulances. If an incident ever requires more ambulances, we can request them from neighboring cities and counties.  Carey Fire and QRU (Quick Response Unit) operates a non-transport ambulance.

Q: The other day I pulled over for an ambulance, with red lights and siren on.  After about two blocks, they turned them off and then just drove with the flow of traffic.  Why?
A: The ambulance was probably canceled, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. A significant portion of our calls result in a cancellation or refusal of services. We may be called to an auto accident, where no one is injured, or after calling, a potential patient may change his mind. We encourage people to call us early. We would rather be canceled on ten calls than to be called too late on one. There is no charge for a canceled call. This part of our service is provided to the community as a public service.
